Cookie notice
Version 2026-10-04-v9
This notice explains the essential cookies, the optional analytics cookie and how to object to aggregated counts.
Essential cookies
These cookies support site entry, policy preferences, safety and sign-in. Optional measurement is not required to use the site.
- vl_access_acceptance remembers the current 18+ and policy entry confirmation for up to 180 days.
- vl_policy_subject connects that confirmation to a random policy record for up to one year.
- vl_safety_reporter is a random, HttpOnly abuse-prevention identifier kept for 24 hours after an account-free safety report.
- Clerk sign-in and security cookies maintain your authenticated session and protect account features.
Remembering your choices
vl_analytics_consent records whether this browser allowed the optional analytics cookie or chose Essential only. It lasts up to 180 days when set on the entry screen, or 30 days when changed in Cookie preferences or your account.
vl_analytics_objection is set only if you object to this browser being included in aggregated usage counts. It contains no identifier, lasts up to one year, and lets the site stop sending and recording those counts. It is not HttpOnly, so the page can check it before sending anything. A Global Privacy Control signal is treated the same way.
vl_gpc_override is set only if your browser sends Global Privacy Control and you choose to include it in aggregated usage counts anyway. It lasts up to one year and contains no identifier. vl_gpc_notice remembers that you closed the Global Privacy Control notice, for up to one year.
Optional analytics cookie
Only if you choose Allow analytics: vl_analytics_visitor holds a random browser identifier for up to 30 days and vl_analytics_session a random session identifier for up to 30 minutes. They count unique and returning browsers and credit promotions for activity later in the same visit. They are first-party, never linked to your account, and not used for advertising or tracking on other sites.
Change or withdraw your choice
Use Cookie preferences, your account settings or the entry screen to allow or withdraw the optional analytics cookie, or to object to aggregated counts, at any time and without signing in. Aggregated usage counts are made without cookies; see the Privacy notice.
